Can we get a sub forum in technical reference for well written tech conversions with pics and other facts / information that only a Mod can post in. Can these be embedded in the site so that the pics won't disappear if a photo buck account is removed ?
The oz gem tech section is full of broken links which is a little annoying.

My idea for the Technical Reference section is for it to be just that (what you've mentioned - written tech conversions/articles) and either for mods only, or highly moderated. I see there are plenty of chat/question threads in there, but I'm happy to go through them and move them to Gemini Chat, and only leaving composed tech articles.

As for embedding pics in the site, AFAIK I can't do this in a code/automated sense, but if Mods/posters use the site's "attach" feature, then it will be hosted with all the other resources for the site. I'd have to confirm with Ant how much space we have to play with, and if it's likely to be an issue. If not, I can bump up the "maximum attached images per post" to facilitate easy use of onsite hosting.

Schwing, done. I've gone through each thread and cleaned it up, moving everything that shouldn't be there to Gemini Chat or Off Topic. I've left shadow threads in place so noone loses anything important, but I'll be deleting the shadow threads in the new year to clean things up.

I just now flicked the switch to re-enable normal users to post in the Technical Reference section. Sorry to anyone trying to post in there for the last day or so. I have, however, disabled "new member" posting in this section; it's the last place we want spam or silly comments - but hopefully the knowledgeable people will stick around for longer than a few posts.

If you don't like something I've done, or I've screwed up somewhere, let me know! :D

Now, time for dinner...

Space is not an issue. Its a private server outright and its got pleanty of space :) It cant really be done automatically but its better if posters do use the upload feature, especially for tech articles, and if they dont, admins/mods can right click->save the pics, then edit the post and attach them instead.

I just renamed "gemini gallery" to "gemini showcase" because I went to update my cars thread (which to me is more than a gallery, its got the build story and tech info as well) and couldnt find it! showcase I figure could include pics, or whatever else, the terminology is a bit more open. yeah?

Awesome! Alright, I just increased the "maximum number of attachments" from 3 to a whopping 20 per post. This should encourage people to host things like gallery images and workshop submissions onsite, to preserve them! If we have any problems with space, let me know and we can take measures to decrease it.

Gemini Showcase sounds great. You make a good point, without it, it kind of blends in.

Antus, and everyone, I hope you don't mind me jumping headlong into all of this. Figured it was time for a change, and from what I could gather we were all on the same wavelength. Ethan and I got pretty enthusiastic about it all on the weekend, and I figured I ma yas well use that while I had time and motivation!

Maybe after christmas/etc we can start thinking about planning a club meeting, just for the sake of a meeting up and having a chinwag, about the club, Geminis, and anything at all! It'd be the first one in years, AFAIK. And on that note, sorry I missed the cruise, I wasn't in the country! I was planning on actually towing the track Gemini on the back of the 31, then hitching a ride with someone else for most of it.

I might play with some concepts for a splash screen/home page for the site.

Late to the party compared to everyone else (been busy the last couple of days), but yeah as Eli said, we had a reeeeal good chat about all this. Thanks to him and Antus already making changes so quickly, it's given me some motivation to do my part, as I will admit my enthusiasm had sort of petered off a bit this year with limited numbers on the cruises/stale feel of the forum.

I've been compiling a few tech articles from different sources on the external, both generic and relevant to Geminis, but I didn't want to post them in the previously "Technical Chat" section as they were more suited to the Library, but obviously couldn't post as I'm not a mod. I reckon I'll get cracking on that, and perhaps go back and clean/rewrite some older threads I'd written (like my interior removal how-to for example).

I'm glad to hear that the attachment limit went up to 20 per post, that's more than enough for most people, and saves a lot of stuffing around with independent sites like PB etc.
Perhaps sticky a guide somewhere in Clubchat/Offtopic for how to attach files directly using the forum. It can be a little confusing if you've never done it before.

Paul and I discussed this very briefly on the last cruise, but I will be implementing a quarterly format for official cruises/meets for the coming year. I'm considering holding something a little more casual on my 21st in April, mini meet or possibly even the go-kart night if there's interest. The Bellett guys did seem to be impressed when they met up with us at Birdwood, so there is potential for an annual shared event of some sort. However it will definately take some time and effort to change their opinion of Gem owners due to "the old days"...

The swap meet idea was something I think we came up with Paul? It'd be good once we got more numbers to events, as we've all got bits and pieces we want to get rid of (myself especially... lol). The BBQ idea is great as well, but my place wouldn't be suitable for distance reasons. However when I get this shed built... maybe...

I've been saying this for ages (and never followed through because I honestly didn't see the point with such a limited community) but I have family in the signwriting business, who could probably do the larger stuff like banners/flags for when we really want to attract some attention.

I was thinking the other day, that when I was first into Gemini's, the main 'rivals' were Ford Escorts. Much the same as Commodores and Falcons. We could talk with them and organise a "show" with the council and have banners and such at Glenelg or somewhere like that and have it a Gemini vs Escort show with us on one side and them on the other. $5 eto enter your car, best car wins a carton of beer or something?

Yeah we really would. Escorts were recognised for their potential earlier in life, worldwide, while Geminis were largely overlooked, and the body change from one country to the next meant that the Kadett's success in Europe didn't seem to reach our shores. Pity the Isuzu Gemini ZZ/R and Opel Kadett GT/E weren't available worldwide! Alas. It could still be fun to try to organise events with other like-minded small-old-car clubs, I've always thought that. I wonder if there's an Esky club? My mate had a few reeeal nice Escorts..

There's another car I'd love to "roll" with - but unfortunately their club is full of arrogant immature morons.
