 Post subject: Bucket of bits to play with!!

Hi all, just toying with some ideas about what to build with some left over bits I have.....

PARTs unused in box......
4zd1 needs gasket rebuild
4ze1 hi comp head
4ze1 Efi manifold only
Piazza turbo manifold
New T28 bush bearing turbo
PWR barrel cooler
Draw through carby turbo set up. ( filter inlet, x over pipe and manifolds)
G180z running with carby ( currently in race car)


My thoughts were:
1. a clunker gasket rebuild 4zd1 with the carby turbo setup, with basic add one like oil cooler and electric water pump.

2. 4zd1 + piazza manifold, E1 high comp head, T28 PWR barrel cooler and Efi manifold, my fear with this combo it the price of a computer to run this set up.

Any thoughts??? :?

EFI Computers aren't that exxy if you don't mind going secondhand and/or having to tune it yourself. I picked up an old Haltech F9A for $200 a while back which I plan to use on a dirty turbo setup for a G series using all my random bits I've collected. It's fuel only but it'll do the job and is a great tool to learn the basics with.
If you were going old school be aware the older Microtech models can no longer be rechipped, what you see is what you get. Older Haltech/Motec/Wolf setups would be my pick for cheap stuff, as they're all about the same really when you get down to it. Haltech would be my pick for a newish ECU if you were so inclined.

The slap together NA build sounds good, as long it's only a gasket build. If you went DGV I have enough jets here to probably help out with the tuning side of things. Been pulling bitsa carbs apart for a while now and collecting them.

Otherwise, Delco is a good option depending on how keen you are to set it up. One of the drift Gem guys over in QLD recent turbo'd his E1 build using Delco to run it and came out with around the 200rwhp mark I think?
Ultimately I'm sure our resident Delco guru (whose brain I really need to pick about a stock G161Z tune I need to setup) would be able to give a much better opinion on that one ;)

Thanks for the brain pickings Ethan.
I've nutted through a few pros n cons and looking at a basic D1 or E1 with the piazza turbo manifold adapted to T28 + barrel cooler an EFI.
I have zero experience with EFi setups and have only done basic reading but I know I need a decent computer for the power output and other functions I require as it's going to run E85, high comp an possible a water injector or injection.

Plan, plan plan then build..

The delco 808 can certainly do what you need and are cheap as from u-pull-it in SA. If your interested check out pcmhacking.net and especially start with the FAQ (there is a link near the top right). It'll probably be information overload to begin with but I'd be keen to help.
